The Evangelism Secret that Promises Success Every. Single. Time.

There is no subject that I am more excited to talk about than evangelism. Over the years, I have preached on this topic many times in churches both at home and around the world. I have made passionate pleas for The Bride of Christ to wake up and pursue her assignment.

I have many stories and strategies I could relate to you. But I felt like today I needed to share simply, neatly, and logically on the topic.

Let’s pursue truth.

Matthew 28:18-20, the Great Commission, is often preached, but far less practiced. And yet it is commanded for all believers. Unfortunately, I find this command of God to be a troubling truth for many.

The internal conflict starts when our new hearts, by way of His Life-giving Spirit, are convicted by another truth found in scripture: the statement Jesus makes when He says, “If you love me, you will obey my commands.” Our conviction to this truth prompts questions in our soul.

Here’s the reasonable line of questioning that typically follows:

  1. If we are not doing the work Jesus commanded of us, do we really love Him?

Ouch. We, as believers, would no doubt say, “Of course, I love Jesus!”

ree
  1. So then, our next logical question would need to be, if I say I love Him, then why am I not doing the work Jesus commanded me to do?

Here are two reasons:

  1. Pride - Rebellious to the heart of God and his plan and design for His Kingdom to reign. Pride shows up in these two ways:

    1. Distraction-ignorance, avoidance, and denial. These are not grounds for leniency on any of God’s commands.

    2. Desire-the want for your own kingdom to grow without submission to God’s kingdom first.

  2. Fear- I find that fear is most often the culprit.

    1. Fear of Man–what others might think

    2. Fear of Persecution–what others might do

Let’s pause for a minute.

Do you see any place where you fall into any of these?

Sister, there is no judgment, no condemnation, only invitation to unpack and let the Spirit of Truth remove the fear and pride in our hearts.

What instructions do we receive from the Word about what we do with our foolish pride, our distraction, and desire?

  • Repent for partnering with pride. Turn around. Don’t go that way anymore. Put those childish pursuits behind you. (Romans 11:20-21)

  • Take Nothing: Depend fully on Him, not yourself. When Jesus sent out the twelve, He told them to take nothing with them. They went out like children, like lambs, like Him. They relied completely on the One who sent them. (Mark 6:7)

  • Receive the Spirit of the Lord and His lordship in your life (Isaiah 11:2-3)

  • Release compassion: When Jesus saw the crowd of people, He had compassion on them and stayed to heal them. He released healing by way of His compassion. (Matthew 9:36, 14:14)

What instruction do we receive from the Word about what to do with our fear of what others might think or do?

  • Repent for partnering with fear. (1 Timothy 1:7)

  • Receive the Fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2-3)

  • Take Heart and Courage: See Mark 6:50 & John 16:33, Jesus is saying in both of these moments to “be of good courage or good cheer!” (Acts 7:60)

  • Release Forgiveness: In Acts, even as Stephen was being stoned to death, his final words echoed Jesus's words, “Forgive them, they don’t know what they are doing.”

Now, let’s practice our love for Jesus.

Let me tell you the secret of evangelism that I have found successful every single time. It’s obedience.

Yes, quite simply, success is your obedience to the previous command where Jesus said, “Go.”

Here are the steps to success:

  1. Assume the word and posture of the command, “Go.”

  2. Assume that starts with the day you are reading it: Today. If He can trust you with today, He will tell you about tomorrow.

  3. Ask the Holy Spirit the rest of the questions related to the word, Go: to where, to whom, and what is to be said?

  4. Do what you hear.

Do not be only hearers of the word, but also doers of the word. (James 1:22)

  1. Join heaven in celebrating your success, which is not measured by the response of the person you engaged with, but your obedience to the one you are engaged to, Jesus.

I’m already celebrating your success! Well done, good and faithful servant.
